Winter is by far the best time of the year to hit the links.
By San Tan Times
The courses are in the best shape of the year and the weather is great throughout the day, but with all of the good comes higher prices. Finding the best deal can sometime be a tough task so we broke down some of the local courses to give you a little head start.

The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch
30761 W. Golf Club Drive, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143
Since opening in 1997, The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch has become one of Arizona’s best value oriented daily fee clubs, mostly because of two very distinct nines, its facility, its restaurant and its constant strive to provide excellent service.
The Mountain nine rises and falls in and around the San Tan Mountains and provides the golfer with exciting elevated tee and approach shots. The stunning views and environment found on the Mountain nine reflect Arizona desert golf at its best. The back nine, or Valley nine, cuts a route of generous fairways, rolling hills and longer holes on the floor of the San Tan foothills. The golf staff stands ready to provide each golfer with a well rounded and comfortable golf experience.
Greens Fees run from $20 all the way to $45 for 18 holes depending on the time of day, and day of the week. You can book your tee time online at http://www.johnsonranchgc.com or give them a call at 480-987-9800
Las Colinas Golf Club
21515 North Village Loop Road, Queen Creek, Arizona 85242
Las Colinas Golf Club features a dynamic landscape. One that designer and architect Mike Asmundson found offered all the elements of a challenging yet playable course. With numerous mature trees, native grasses and plants, even the obstacles have never been so inviting. An imposing mountain range backs one hole – a par 5 dogleg. Two other holes are played lakeside. And there are greens separated by desert washes, where you may catch a glimpse of local wild life.
Tee times range from $23.25 all the way up to $39.95 depending on when you play. You can visit http://www.lascolinasgolfclub.com to book a tee time, or you can pick up the phone and call them at 480-987-3633. Trust me you wont be disappointed in this course!
Poston Butte Golf Club
6100 W. Merrill Ranch Pkwy. Florence, AZ 85132
Located in the Southeast Valley of Phoenix, Arizona, Poston Butte Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course designed by world renowned Gary Panks that offers unequaled beauty with a challenging, yet rewarding layout. The course features memorable par three holes including the always exciting island green #17. Golfers will get a glimpse of the historic fire temple resurrected in the 1800’s by Charles Poston from an Apache ruin on a butte nearby capturing the spirit of golf in the southwest and wanting you to try it again and again!
This course is a local favorite, and truly one of the most beautiful, and well maintained courses in the area, if not the state. A trip to Poston Butte is well worth it!
Now with everything that this course has to offer, it also has the price tag to match with Greens Fees ranging from $42 to $89. It is expensive, and it is amazing! Book your next tee time at http://postonbutte.com/index.php or give them a call at 520-723-1880. When the round is over make sure you grab a bite to eat at the Anthem Grille, it is just one more of the many treats that this property has to offer.
The Golf Club at Oasis
5764 E. Hunt hwy. Florence, AZ 85132
Now if you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary then look no further. Golf Magazine had this to say about the course.
“Our first Hidden Gem is the Golf Club at Oasis, a rather unique course located along Hunt Highway…” This course features nine fairways and 18 greens, with five tee boxes as long as 7,366 yards from the black set. (or as close as 4564 from the red set) This adds up to one of the most interesting ways to play 18 holes around, and is a great way to learn course management’s, shot strategy, and the value of setting up the proper approach angle to any green. It’s also a great way to get a second shot at any given hole without taking one of those illegal yet very popular mulligan’s.”
According to their website you can play for $30 no matter the time of day, or day of the week. You may want to call and check this out for yourself though. You can get a hold of them at 480-888-8890
All of these courses are great at what they do, and picking one can be a tough choice. My thoughts would be to make sure and give them all a try this winter.
