Banner Hospice is celebrating Hospice and Palliative Care Month and Veterans Day in November by teaming with Banner Health Clinics to sponsor a sock drive to benefit local veteran organizations. Donations can be made at the following Banner Home Care and Medical Equipment locations: 275 E. Germann Rd., Gilbert; 13950 W. Meeker Blvd., Ste 101, Sun City West.

“We understand that socks are one of the most requested items from troops and military veterans,” said Dr. Sarah Payne, medical director for Banner Hospice. “We’re honored that we can not only help our veterans with something that they request and need, but also bring awareness to the communities we serve about the importance of hospice care and what we do to help our patients and their loved ones.”

Banner Health is a part of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, which reports that nearly 1.5 million Medicare beneficiaries receive care from hospices in this country. Banner Hospice provides specialized health care for all people with terminal illnesses who have decided not to pursue further treatments, but rather are focused on comfort and quality of life.

Dr. Payne said, “Our mission at Banner Hospice is making health care easier for our patients especially when it comes to the end of their life. Whether they or their loved ones choose to seek care in a facility or at home, our goal is to assist as much as possible with their treatment, as well as their emotional and spiritual needs.”

Headquartered in Arizona, Banner Health is one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in the country. The system owns and operates 28 acute-care hospitals, Banner Health Network, Banner – University Medicine, academic and employed physician groups, long-term care centers, outpatient surgery centers and an array of other services; including Banner Urgent Care, family clinics, home care and hospice services, pharmacies and a nursing registry.
