Detour available; drivers can consider other alternate routes

Eastbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) will be closed overnight at the State Route 51 interchange in northeast Phoenix on Monday night, Feb. 3, for work on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s ongoing freeway widening project in that area.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following scheduled restriction is in place:

  • Eastbound Loop 101 closed overnight at the State Route 51 interchange from 9 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4). DETOUR: Eastbound Loop 101 traffic can detour to southbound SR 51 and exit at Union Hills Drive before turning at the interchange to enter northbound SR 51 to connect with eastbound Loop 101.

Overnight closures of 32nd Street at Loop 101 also are scheduled as follows for bridge widening work:

  • 32nd Street closed in both directions at Loop 101 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights (Feb. 3-6). DETOUR: Traffic will detour on nearby streets including Cave Creek Road.

The westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at 64th Street and westbound off-ramp at 56th Street will be closed for two months starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, for reconstruction as part of the widening project.

The $185 million Loop 101 Improvement Project is adding a lane in each direction and other improvements along the Pima Freeway between Interstate 17 in Phoenix and Princess Drive/Pima Road in north Scottsdale. The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2021.
