Local Teacher Receives State Award
By Florence Unified School District
Dennis Gardner, President of the Joe Foss American Legion Post 97, San Tan Valley chapter, presented the House of Representative “House Recognition” award certificate
to Poston Butte High School Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Brenden McMaster for Exemplary service as a Coach and Teacher at Poston Butte High School serving the San Tan Valley Community.
Here is the letter parents included in the award:
“We, the parents or students participating in Poston Butte High school Cross Country and Track Teams wanted to THANK and bring recognition to Coach McMaster for outstanding commitment and dedication as a coach, mentor, and teacher who gives much of his time before and afterschool in developing strong athletes and students of character in the program.
Considering how hard we all saw Coach McMaster work this year in motivating the team, especially Cross Country in the over 100 degree heat and qualifying the kids to go to the state finals, as this was the first year in the history of the school to bring a girls and boys team to compete in the state finals. He also had the kids participate in the San Tan Community winter parade, raised much funding for the Cross Country team to all go to the San Diego Invitational meet, run the school’s first Bronco 5K, and much hard work went into this and he was training the students 6 days a week, the parents wanted him to get recognized and perhaps bring in the community to help him with his 5K community run.
It’s so hard to keep track of what’s going on with all your teachers, we just wanted to let you know about this. Sincerely,
the parents of the Poston Butte High school Cross Country and Track Teams 2017-18”
Superintendent Chris Knutsen said, “Coach McMaster has done a tremendous job working with our students and has set a great example for the kind of people we want them to become. Congratulations on this well deserved honor.”
