Ensure An Accurate Count As This Affects Funding

By the Office of Supervisor Mike Goodman

Pinal County is pleased to announce its partnership with MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments) for the 2020 Census.  It is critical that we as residents do all that we can to ensure an accurate count as this affects funding our state, county, and towns receive.

The following information is from the 2020Census.gov website:

If someone visits your home to collect information for the 2020 Census, you can do the following to verify their identity:

First, check to make sure that they have a valid ID badge, with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date.

If you still have questions about their identity, you can call 800-923-8282 to speak with a local Census Bureau representative.

Census takers who verify addresses are called address canvassers. They help ensure an accurate and complete count by verifying addresses and noting where houses, apartments, shelters, and other residences are located. Census takers will attempt to knock on every door in the neighborhood they are canvassing.

Explore where the Census Bureau plans to send address canvassers with this interactive map:

Right now the Census is doing address canvassing in OUR communities.  If you live in a gated community we ask that you please allow the Census employees in without hassle.  During this phase they will be updating the addresses on the maps for all the new construction that has taken place over the last 10 years.

By April 1, 2020, all homes will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. The best way to avoid a follow-up visit from a census taker is to fill out the 2020 Census questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail as soon as you receive your invitation to participate.

Our office is committed to I Count 2020 because we need and deserve improved roads, more funding for our schools, and for businesses to recognize the potential they have by coming to our area.   We hope that you too can see the benefit of an accurate count.  For more information please visit:
