Dr. Perry Berry, Superintendent of the Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD), and the QCUSD Governing Board have named Mrs. Dawn Kennaugh as the new principal of Jack Barnes Elementary (JBE), a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School. Mrs. Kennaugh’s hiring was approved at the May 14, 2019, QCUSD Governing Board meeting. She will take over for Mrs. Laura Valenciano who is retiring after this school year.

“Dawn comes highly recommended and has many years of experience as a principal,” said Dr. Berry. “Her years of experience make her an excellent choice for this school.”

Mrs. Kennaugh earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and her Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University.  A Michigan native, she taught first grade (8 years), kindergarten (3 years), and fourth grade (3 years) in two Michigan districts before accepting a position as an elementary principal in Grand Ledge, Michigan.  Dawn has served as principal for the past nine years.

“I am very excited about joining the QCUSD family,” said Mrs. Kennaugh. “I look forward to working with such a warm and welcoming staff.”

Dawn and her husband, Toby, have two daughters:  Taylor, 21, and Abby, 17.  When not working, Dawn enjoys reading, watching college football and basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
