Friday – Rise and shine for this early morning guided hike with the ranger. We’ll trek 4-5 miles on moderate trails and be on the lookout for saguaro blossoms and other flowering cacti. Bring plenty of water and wear closed-toe shoes, a hat, long sleeves and sunscreen. Hiking poles are a plus. Meet at the Main Trailhead map kiosk. 7-9am.

If you’re looking to learn new skills, increase your confidence on the bike, or simply enjoy the sport like never before, our MTB 101 class is just for you. This is the perfect introduction that teaches all the basic skills needed to ride in the desert & mountain terrain.  Get to know your bike and riding equipment, learn how to balance, shift, and control your speed with proper braking, and familiarize yourself with riding protocol and safety. This introductory 30 min class is also followed by a short 3-4 mile ride to practice what you just learned. A helmet is required for safety reasons and please bring plenty of water, and an extra tube and tools to change a flat tire. If you’re a mountain bike beginner and have never ridden on the desert trails, you don’t want to miss this event! Meet at the Main Trailhead. 7-9am.

How dangerous are scorpions?  How can we protect ourselves from them?  How do they survive and thrive in our desert?  Discover the answer to these questions and more in this exciting one-hour presentation!  Join us inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares amazing facts about these desert dwellers.  As a bonus, watch us feed our snakes after the program at 7:30pm.  Then join our “Scorpion Hunt” at 8pm at no extra cost!

Did you know that scorpions glow in the dark under a blacklight?  Join Ranger B as he leads us on this fun and safe night walk along a trail to find these elusive desert dwellers (using our eyes only).  You will sharpen your spotting skills and have a lot of fun at the same time!  All ages will enjoy this casual one-hour/one-mile walk.  Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring water and a blacklight (blacklights are for sale while supplies last).  No pets, please.  Location:  Trailhead Staging.  As a bonus, join our “All About Scorpions” program inside our Nature Center at 6:30pm and our snake feeding at 7:30pm at no extra cost!
