Join us for an exciting beginner mountain bike ride among the beautiful San Tan Mountains. This 5.5-mile ride is open to all ages and skill levels. Our local experts will be available to help you understand your bike’s features and learn the ins and outs of safe riding. “No Rider Left Behind” is our policy, because we ride together in a group. 

This is your opportunity to be around others who are passionate about mountain biking as a sport to have fun and get some exercise. Helmets are required. Under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Essentials: water, helmet, extra tube, tools to change a flat tire. Meet at the San Tan Trail sign at the main trailhead. 8-10am.

Get into the Halloween spirit with a class to send shivers down your spine and make you go “ewwww!” What makes a critter “creepy”? What are some of the creepy critters that live in our desert? Come learn about scaly, toothy, clawed, many-legged and no-legged creatures that can be found in the park…and even meet some face to face! Meet inside the Nature Center. 10-11:30am.

Learn how you can take part in this fun initiative presented by Maricopa County Parks! Ghosts of all ages are invited to kick off the Halloween season with this fun event!  Wear a costume for our quarter-mile journey through the dark desert.  Our “Ghost Rangers” will judge the best child, teen, and adult costumes.  The Phoenix Zoo will be here to present some live animals and we’ll also listen to Ranger B’s funny-spooky stories around the bonfire (along with a free marshmallow roast!).  Please bring a flashlight and closed-toe shoes.  Groups call ahead, and no pets, please.  Location:  Nature Center.

Get your first miles with us!
It’s time again for the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation annual 100-mile trail challenge! Today is the official start date so take the first steps to your goal on a guided hike with the ranger. We’ll choose a moderate route that morning and keep it under 5 miles. You can learn about our park, make new friends and plan your next outings.  Of course, if you are a biker or equestrian you are welcome to start your 200-mile journey with us and we’ll cheer you on. 

To learn more about the Challenge read more on page 6. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, hat, sunscreen, snacks. Meet at the main trailhead map kiosk/picnic table. 8-10am.

This is not a park sponsored event.

There will be a permitted running race taking place at San Tan on Sunday, November 10, 2019. All trails will be used by runners. The start/finish line and related set-up will be at the Main Trailhead. Expect entry delays in the early morning and heavy parking lot and trail traffic through early afternoon.
