Nighttime Cross Street Closures Are Part Of Widening Project

Overnight restrictions are scheduled along the Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) in north Phoenix and Scottsdale the week of Dec. 8-13 for work on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s freeway widening project between Interstate 17 and Princess Drive/Pima Road.

Nighttime closures of ramps and streets near Loop 101 as well as other restrictions are scheduled as follows:

  • Northbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights (Dec. 9-12) for freeway widening. Drivers should plan for slow traffic and consider alternate routes. Loop 101 also narrowed to two lanes in both directions between SR 51 and Cave Creek Road. DETOUR: Drivers can exit northbound SR 51 to northbound Black Mountain Boulevard (north of Union Hills Drive) and use westbound Deer Valley Road to southbound Cave Creek Road to access westbound Loop 101. Drivers also can exit northbound SR 51 to westbound Union Hills Drive and use northbound Cave Creek Road to reach Loop 101.
  • Scottsdale Road closed overnight in both directions at Loop 101 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights (Dec. 9-12) for freeway widening. Loop 101 also narrowed to two lanes in both directions near Scottsdale Road. Seventh Street and 19th Avenue closed overnight in both directions at Loop 101 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights (Dec. 9-12). DETOUR: Drivers should plan on using signed detours or alternate routes while the overnight cross street closures are in place.
  • Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Scottsdale Road and westbound on-ramp at Hayden Road closed overnight from 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday (Dec. 9) for freeway widening. Loop 101 narrowed to three lanes in both directions overnight between Scottsdale and Hayden roads. ADOT started the $185 million Pima Freeway widening project in February to add lanes and make other improvements along 13 miles of Loop 101 between Interstate 17 and Pima Road. The entire project is scheduled for completion in early 2021.
