The Poston Butte High School Lady Bronco Basketball Team was recently chosen as the Adopt-A-Team for the Phoenix Mercury.

“The 2019 season will mark the 12th year of the Mercury’s Adopt-A-Team program. It’s a season-long mentoring program in which a local Title I High School Girls’ Varsity basketball team is selected to take part in basketball and life-skills lessons as well as attend Phoenix Mercury games. The program seeks to increase confidence, prepare students for life after high school graduation, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. In addition, the selected team receives new equipment, one-on-one interaction with Phoenix Mercury players and coaches, and much, much more!”

Coach Savannah Bix said, “This is definitely an awesome opportunity. We are able to send the Mercury a “wish list” of things we want/need like uniforms, gear, equipment, etc. that they will buy us. We get tickets to every home game, we receive mentorship and workshops from the Mercury, join them with their community outreach programs. On the Mercury’s home opening night, May 31st, we get presented on court prior to tip-off with the banner and recognized as the Adopt A Team as well as I get honored as “Coach of the Night.”

“Congratulations to Coach Bix and the Poston Butte High School Girls’ Basketball Team. This is a great opportunity for the team and we appreciate the Phoenix Mercury supporting our kids.” Superintendent Chris Knutsen was quoted as saying.

The application process called for multiple video submissions and an interview process.
