Poston Butte High School Mentor Teacher, Ms. Randi Fielding, recently earned a National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. She also serves as a Co-Teacher Coach and Exceptional Student Services Teacher. She joins two other teachers from FUSD who currently hold a National Board Certificate.

Ms. Fielding said, “I’m honored to have achieved National Board Certification. It has been a goal for my whole career and I could not have done it without the support and encouragement of my family, colleagues, and of course my amazing students.”

The National Board website explains the certification as being “designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. It is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education.”

“Created by teachers, for teachers, the National Board Standards represent a consensus among educators about what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do.”

“The certification process requires that teachers demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with the Five Core Propositions. They must exhibit a deep understanding of their students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments and teaching practice. They must also show that they participate in learning communities and provide evidence of ongoing reflection and continuous learning.” (

Principal, Eddie Lopez, Quote: “Randi Fielding has achieved the highest standard as an educator by becoming National Board Certified. Her dedication to always wanting to learn and be involved in education programs at Poston Butte High School will benefit the students, staff, and parents in our community. Congratulations to Mrs. Fielding. She truly has earned this recognition as a top educator in the Florence Unified School District.”

Superintendent, Mr. Chris Knutsen’s Quote: “Ms. Fielding is an incredible teacher and we commend her for pursuing National Board Certification. The Florence Unified School District is a District By Design, Not By Chance. Teachers like Ms. Fielding, who go the extra mile for their students, are the reason why.”
