By Chris Knutsen FUSD Superintendent

After meeting with our district staff and discussing the teacher walkout scheduled for Thursday, April 26th, we have made the determination that we will not be able to guarantee enough staff will be present to provide a safe environment for students. The teachers and staff at FUSD have shown their support for the Governor’s proposal but it does not appear the legislature will pass it before this Thursday.

I will be meeting with the FUSD school board to request a modification to our district calendar. If passed, we will close all schools beginning this Thursday, April 26th, and re-open when we are able to guarantee enough staff attendance to provide a safe learning environment for students. We have heard from multiple levels that the legislature will pass the proposal very soon and we will communicate with parents immediately when this happens.

We understand the strain this is putting our families and our staff. Please visit for updates, access to resources, and responses to frequently asked questions. We will continue to update parents as we know more. You can also get updates on our district social media accounts by following and

Please plan for all FUSD schools to be closed beginning Thursday, April 26th. As soon as the district is notified of the walkout ending or there is enough staff to provide a safe learning environment, we will notify parents immediately and we will resume normal district operations. Contact information for our local legislators is listed at the bottom of this letter.

I am confident that if this walkout happens, it will be short.
