Derby Race Events
Come out and show off your skills at the Lego Derby and Pinewood Derby sponsored by Boy Scouts of America. There is no fee to race in either event, however, Pinewood Derby Racers do have specific requirements which are listed under the Pinewood Derby section. Feel free to compete in one or both of the Derby’s. There are two ways to take part in the fun!
Come to the Lego build tables and use the provided Lego’s to build your dream race car and watch it race down the track against other fellow master Lego builders. Each participant will be given five (5) minutes to build their car and then watch it race down the track. After your race is over, feel free to go back to the build tables and build another one as the race team tears apart your Lego car and gets it ready for another builder to create their masterpiece. You can build a car and race in the Lego race as many times as you wish. There is no age requirement. No pre-registration is required. Come out and have fun building and racing!
Build your very own Pinewood Derby car at home and bring it to race. See how much fun it is to build and race, which is only one of the many FUN things you can do as a cub scout. To take part in this option, attendees can purchase an official BSA derby kit from Michael’s, Lowe’s or the Mesa Scout Shop (off Dobson Rd.) and then build the fastest and most stylish car out there. Maybe you have an old Pinewood Derby Car at home, we invite you to bring it to race. Rules are listed at the registration link below and Pinewood Derby race participants must abide by all the regulations in order to race in the Pinewood Derby races. Race against everyone to see how you do.
All non-scouters/community participants will race in the Outlaw class. Online registration required to race in the Pinewood Derby Race as the number of participants are limited due to the event length. No matter which way you choose to race, stop by the Boy Scouts of America booth to find out more about scouting in your community or visit beascout.scouting.org or Grand Canyon Council Boy Scouts to join. Scouting is open for boys 5-20 and girls 14-20.
