Freeway to close between 67th, 43rd avenues
Eastbound Interstate 10 will close this weekend at the interchange with the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway so that crews can continue striping I-10.
Eastbound I-10 will be closed between 67th and 43rd avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, to 4 a.m. Monday, March 2.
There will be no access to the ramp to the southbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, and no access to eastbound I-10 from the South Mountain Freeway. Drivers can access the South Mountain Freeway by exiting as early as 75th Avenue, driving south to Van Buren Street and following Van Buren to the freeway entrance.
On-ramps to eastbound I-10 will be closed at 83rd, 79th, 75th, 67th and 51st avenues. Eastbound drivers should consider exiting as early as 75th Avenue and using McDowell Road or Van Buren Street to 43rd Avenue, then re-entering I-10.
Eastbound I-10 drivers traveling beyond the Phoenix area should consider taking State Route 85 south from Buckeye to Gila Bend, then traveling east on Interstate 8 to reconnect with I-10 at Casa Grande.
Drivers can watch for updated information at az511.gov or on Twitter, @ArizonaDOT.
The South Mountain Freeway, which opened in December, provides a long-planned direct link between the East Valley and West Valley and a much-needed alternative to I-10 through downtown Phoenix.
