Days Of Filling Out Hard Copies Are Over

By Arizona Department Of Transportation

Eastbound Interstate 10 will close at 67th Avenue this weekend to allow construction crews to continue work on the interchange with the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway.

Eastbound I-10 will be closed between 67th and 43rd avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, to 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. In addition, on-ramps to eastbound I-10 will be closed at 91st, 83rd, 79th, 75th and 51st avenues, as will the eastbound off-ramp at 43rd Avenue.

Drivers should expect delays on eastbound I-10 and should consider McDowell Road or Van Buren Street as alternate routes. The freeway is scheduled to be open well before Cardinals fans begin driving to the team’s game in Glendale.

Work from an unrelated project also will close the right two lanes of westbound I-10 between 27th and 43rd avenues during the same hours. The 27th Avenue on-ramp to westbound I-10 will be closed, and the ramp from northbound I-17 to westbound I-10 will be restricted to one lane. Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes.

Eastbound I-10 drivers traveling beyond the Phoenix area should consider taking State Route 85 south from Buckeye to Gila Bend, then traveling east on Interstate 8 to reconnect with I-10 at Casa Grande.

Ongoing work related to construction of the interchange west of downtown Phoenix is expected to require closures and lane restrictions on weekends throughout September and October. Drivers can watch for updated information at:

The freeway is scheduled to be open to traffic by the end of the year with construction activities continuing into 2020. It will provide a long-planned direct link between the East Valley and West Valley and a much-needed alternative to I-10 through downtown Phoenix.
